The transparency online sensor is based on the light transmission method. It is equipped with a built-in cleaning brush that automatically removes bubbles and reduces fouling interference during measurement. The sensor uses an RS485 interface and supports the standard Modbus protocol, enabling fast and accurate assessment of water clarity.
Traditional methods for measuring water transparency include the Secchi disk method, the lead character method, and the cross method. The latter two rely on visual observation after sampling and are unable to provide values when water transparency exceeds the length of the measuring tube. The Secchi disk, a 20 cm diameter disk divided into black and white halves, is lowered into the water until it is no longer visible—the depth at which it disappears represents the transparency.
This sensor improves upon traditional methods by replacing human visual observation with a system composed of a visible light source, photodiode, and quartz window. This enables real-time, online monitoring of water transparency.
