EXPEC-2000 Series Methane/NMHC/THC Analyzer adopts high-temperature heat tracing double valve column-parallel back blowing chromatographic separation technology, which can automatically measure and analyze methane(CH4) and total hydrocarbon(THC) content.
Methane (CH4) is a colorless and odorless gas that plays a significant role as the primary component of natural gas. It exists naturally underground and beneath the ocean floor, as well as in the Earth’s atmosphere at levels of around 1,800 parts per billion (ppb). Human activities, including industrial processes, contribute to the emission of methane into the atmosphere when it is not properly managed or combusted. As a potent greenhouse gas with the ability to persist in the atmosphere, monitoring and reducing methane emissions are essential for environmental protection. The 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(COP28)in 2023 prioritized ‘methane emissions reduction’ as one of its important targets.
Principle
FPI utilizes GC-FID method (direct test), through low-temperature enrichment-high temperature heat tracing, two-channel connected hydrogen flame ionization detector (FID) technology. The valve body switches back and forth to collect the sample into the quantitative ring. The total hydrocarbon in the empty column and the methane in the chromatographic column can quickly pass through the detector. The valve body makes the carrier gas flow reversely through the chromatographic column to blow the non-methane total hydrocarbon out of the analysis system without being detected.
